Solar-powered vs Traditional Street Lights
19 September 2019 | 0 comments | Posted by Isabel Speckman in Constructive Criticism
The world has undoubtedly advanced more than you would think, and it doesn't look like stopping anytime soon. With modern technology becoming more common, traditional and conventional ideas keep on conflicting with different results.
- What about solar-powered street lights and conventional street lights?
- How do they measure up to each other?
To help us get the right picture, we would have to compare both concepts using some of the qualities which would lead to optimal performances and fewer issues. These qualities would give us a good idea of what to expect from them. Would you like to find out? Here are some of the problems to be considered;
Lifespan
Of course, one of the qualities which you should look out for in any item or concept would be the durability of that item. This is one aspect which separates the two types of street lights. When it comes to lifespan, this would quickly go to the solar-powered street lights.
They are said to last at least twice the lifespan of a street lighting system which is powered by electricity and cables. This inevitably puts the solar-powered street lights firmly ahead. They get the first one nod in this category.
Safety
When it comes to any infrastructure which would be accessible to persons on the streets, the security of that infrastructure would surely have to be considered. That being said, safety would probably be a crucial factor that determines which street lighting system you should probably stick with. With traditional or conventional street lights, you would face some issues.
One of them would be the exposure of cable wires. This could cause several problems such as electric shocks and all sorts of accidents. Hardly something anyone would look forward to.
However, apart from the accidental fall of the lights on the streets, the solar-powered street lights should provide very minimal fuss. It uses solar panels and hardly any cables. That should ensure a less accident-prone encounter.
Costs
Yes, the price. The value you would incur is probably what controls everything that you and everyone, in general, would be able to achieve. So most people, including you, might be on the lookout for products or infrastructure which can do the job well without costing a fortune.
When all things are weighed on a balanced scale, you would have so much less to pay for when you go for a solar-powered street light. For example, all in one solar street light has been able to integrate all that you would need in a single package.
This means that you would not need to dig into the ground or rush around looking for the perfect cables for your street light. It has all been taken care of. This round once again belongs to the solar-powered street lights.
Theft
This is one category where the solar-powered street light is given a run for the money by the traditional street lighting system. The solar street light would not need to be connected to any cable. This increases the likelihood that it can be easily stolen. However, the traditional street lights would not be facing this problem as it is most times installed into the ground.
However, they would face a different form of theft. The stealing of cable wires and other components is not new. It is quite popular in many areas. For this reason, traditional street lights can prove to be very hard to maintain over the course as they would be prone to a lot of stealing from thieves and criminals alike. Because of the pros and cons that both lighting systems have, this round can be considered to be a tie.
Repairs
The truth is that none of the lighting systems is perfect and would surely need to be repaired or maintained from time to time. However, the speed at which those repairs or maintenance procedures are done can be slow for traditional street lights for many reasons. One of those reasons could be the independence which exists in traditional street lights.
This makes it hard to spot the problem as all the lights would be affected once there is a fault with one. This would mean taking more extended periods to search for and identify problems with the traditional street lights.
However, the solar-powered street lighting system is different. With that system, every street lights which is in use has its separate unit and panel. This means that whenever there is a fault, just that street would turn out to be affected.
It would not run into the other panels or systems. This allows you to spot the defect quickly and make repairs without having to break a sweat. Amazing is the one for that ability.
Design
Let's be honest. Most of the traditional street lights are simply a bore. They have no interesting plans and can hardly stand when put in comparison with the solar-powered systems.
Those systems are usually backed up with some of the latest innovations in the field of solar energy. With the solar-powered street lights by your side, you would be able to provide adequate lighting while also have access to great innovation all at once.
Transportation
Another aspect which we can consider these two street lights would be their ability to transport them over long distances. In this category, it is once again clear that the solar-powered street lights would once again win the day. It is easy to carry about as most of the parts are integrated and made from panels.
Conclusion
No matter how you look at it, the gap between the solar-powered street lights and their counterparts is too large. The solar-powered street lights come out on top every single time.
Getting a solar-powered street light is possible. DEL Illumination is one of the best producers and sellers of street lights that are powered by solar. You would surely find their services very rewarding. Solar energy is fast becoming a phenomenon.
The solar-powered street lights are enough proof of that fact.
