Providing your customers with the correct information is a no-brainer. After all, they may well need the information to decide whether they want to make a purchase, and by pre-empting questions and providing answers, you can dramatically improve your website’s performance with an upfront investment that will continue to pay dividends in the future.

In fact, one study showed that a single spelling mistake could “cost millions”, cutting online sales in half. This is challenging enough when your site is only available in a single language, but it becomes even more difficult when you’re working with multiple languages in different regions.

The good news is that with a little extra care and attention, it’s easy to make sure that your website is as polished and as professional as possible. Why your information needs to be correct

The most obvious example is if a potential customer wants to make a purchase but they have a question that they want to ask first. Another example would be if you were hosting an event and you had the wrong start time or address listed on the website. In that case, it won’t just be missing revenue that you might have to worry about. Some of these scenarios are more drastic than others, but all of them are very real possibilities. Humans are prone to failure by their very nature, and even the very best of us makes mistakes.

The key to doing business is to know that mistakes are inevitable and to create processes that are designed to minimise their impact wherever possible. In this case, that means making sure that you hire professional copywriters and that you back that up with thorough proofreading.

In the vast majority of cases, you’ll be integrating SEO keywords throughout the copy you write. That’s fine to an extent, but make sure that you never compromise human readability in an attempt to stuff something with keywords. And if you’re ever in doubt, consider getting someone else to look over it for you. You’d be surprised at how helpful a second pair of eyes can be.

Leading your customers down the right path

Ultimately, providing accurate information is common courtesy, a best practice that benefits both the company and its customers. By ensuring that all information is correct, it reduces the odds of miscommunication and helps to iron out any bumps in the customer journey.

Every piece of incorrect information is essentially a warning sign to customers that your company might not be legitimate. It also gives them a reason to leave in the middle of making a purchase, a practice which could cost you huge amounts of money in missed sales in the long run.
