Automate social media posts with bulk.ly

Social media marketing has become a fundamental part of any business both online and traditional. It allows you to promote your services and keep in touch with your consumer base as well as receive feedback from clients.

The importance of a strong social media presence cannot be overstated in this day and age but it comes at a cost. A cost business cannot always afford.

Managing and growing a social media account is a full-time job and is highly time-consuming. Time constraints are especially true for business owners who cannot afford the full-time staff to manage their social media accounts.

In other cases, one full-time social media manager may have so many channels to handle and duties that their task list becomes overwhelming.

Which is why social media automation as started to become more popular in recent years.

Marketing automation for social media

Social media automation so far has been pretty basic and comes in the form of content management and scheduling tools that allow you to preplan your schedule and set up posts well in advance and then have them fired off at specific dates and times. Some social media management tools also automate your tracking too, which really makes the world of difference for any social media manager.

If you are managing social media accounts and you're looking to reduce the need for some of your duties like posting similar updates then there's an automation tool just for you.

Creating evergreen content

Plenty of social media posts pushed out by businesses are often the same message rehashed over and over to help remind customers of your goods or services. You may have a set number of products you like to post about or a few blog articles that you like to constantly keep in the public eye. This type of content is known as evergreen content and the posts are applicable to users who see them at any time of the year.

If you have evergreen content or the same products you promote each month then reposting these messages is a time-consuming process that really should be automated.

Protip! This type of content works especially well on Twitter where tweets are pushed out at hyperspeed so it's easy to miss a message and constant tweeting keeps users in the know.

Automating your social media channels

If you are in a similar situation as I've mentioned previously then you could find a solution in Bulk.ly a social media content automation tool. Bulk.ly is a third-party tool that syncs seamlessly with social media scheduling application Buffer.

Instead of having to create post after post and setting scheduling dates Bulk.ly takes it a step further. The application allows you to create a CSV file with all your posts and post variations on it and upload it into their system.

Then you can set the time, amount of posts, hashtags and frequency and recycling of posts you would like to be published. Then set these posts to alternate on your various social media accounts.

You can then also intervene and shuffle posts around, make changes to the content and allow it to re-run your various automation rules.

This sort of automation can save you a lot of time which you can then focus on answering queries, community building or creating ad copy and refining audience targeting.

Keeping an eye on results

Once you start running automated social media posting what we recommend you do is set up a cross channel social media dashboard. This will pull in all the data from your various social media channels performance and you can see trends like

  • Which channels are attracting traffic
  • Which channels are getting engagement
  • Which posts work best on which channels

Using that data you can then remove the poor performing posts and take the ones that are working and create variations of the messaging. Then re-upload into your Bulk.ly and Buffer account and have it run.

Continue this constant monthly evaluation to ensure your automation shows improved results over time and does not get stale.
