5 Easy Ways To Remodel A Living Room On A Budget

Renovate living room on a budget

Giving your living room a little bit of a facelift is always a good idea since it is one of the most visited areas in your home. It’s a place for family gatherings, game and movie nights, relaxation, entertaining guests, the list goes on. The good news is that this kind of project does not necessarily have to put a strain on your budget. Minor changes can have a significant impact on the overall living room look, and give you a fresh perspective without having to break the bank. All you need is a little bit of creativity and inspiration and that's what we're planning to help you within this guide.

So let’s take a glance at some of the budget-friendly updates that will make you want to roll up your sleeves and get to work right away.

1. Repaint

One of the most affordable, but also the most impressive things you can do with your living room area is to change the colours of your walls. As far as the choice of colour goes, go green if you want to achieve the effect of harmony and renewal. Both fresh and subtle, this is an excellent option if you find neutrals too dull. Blue has a calming, stabilizing effect and goes very well with neutrals such as brown or cream.

You can paint all the walls or just one as a feature, or you can combine and contrast the colours for a more dazzling effect. If you perhaps have accessories that you think will not go well with the vibrant walls, beige is the go-to, classy option you were looking for to complement your overall design.

2. Accessorize

By far, the quickest and easiest way to revamp the living room is by (re)arranging the accessories. There are plenty of ideas out there, from DIY projects to inspirational and informative YouTube videos that are affordable as well as amazing. Switch your pillows for those following the season’s latest trends, and you can match them with cotton throws in the summer and woolly blankets in winter.

A fresh rug pattern will add colour and warmth; a new set of curtains can transform the room and art or family photos on the walls can add a wonderful note of elegance. If you have enough natural light, introduce some lush plants into the room, and you’ll get a lively, natural feel you can’t wait to get home to every day.

3. Freshen up your furniture

Instead of splashing out on new furniture, why not give the old pieces of furniture another chance? Not only is it a cheaper option, but it is also more environmentally friendly. If the frame is still of good quality, investing time and effort in recovering upholstered furniture makes perfect sense. If you’re having second thoughts, it might be better to throw a loose cover over your sofa or armchair. Printed throws make an excellent quick fix for damaged or stained upholstery.

Just like the walls, you can paint your furniture too without having to worry about it being a permanent change – you can always sand it down and go back to the vintage look.

4. Mind the lighting

Changing the lighting is an amazing way to add to the ambience. A couple of carefully positioned table or floor lamps will do wonders for the general mood of the room. If you have artwork on the walls, well-placed picture lights can emphasize its effect to a great extent. Furthermore, it might be a good idea to rethink your central light fixture and replace it with a new chandelier or pendant.

Your old table lamps can perhaps do with new and exciting lampshades you can change as often as you like if only to match the accessories you’ve decided to go with that season.

5. Spruce up the floors

A dated wood floor hinders the flamboyance of any room, which is why this is one of the things that can have the greatest effect. If your living room floor needs a complete replacement, it’s undoubtedly a worthwhile investment. However, there are more affordable options. See if your current floor can be refreshed by sanding or staining. It will liven up the room without breaking your budget.

Make a change with spending spare change

There are so many ways you can achieve a fantastic new living room look and not spend a fortune while doing it. All you need to do is browse through some ideas, either online or by flicking through home decoration magazines and find your inspiration. All that’s left then is to enjoy making your living room your new favourite room in the house.
