Five Exquisite Places For A Destination Wedding

16 December 2019 | 0 comments | Posted by Kyle Moore in Extravaganza

Ideas for a destination wedding

Destination weddings have become the rage, but there’s a good reason for their popularity. If a couple has family coming from different parts of the world and are unsure of where to have their wedding, choosing a neutral place is a great idea.

Of course, it also means everyone gets to feel like they’re on holiday and are experiencing a new, exciting place while celebrating the nuptials of their friends or family; it creates radiant energy.

Now, if you’re considering a destination wedding, you must find a place that speaks to you as a couple, has relatively good weather and locations perfect for such a celebration. It’s also, of course, essential to consider the travel arrangements and even the accommodation of your guests.

1. Thanda Island, Tanzania

Thanda Island is one of the most beautiful destinations on earth and what’s even more amazing about it, is that most people don’t even know it exists. This is because it’s a real hidden gem situated off the coast of Tanzania in the Indian Ocean, and it is private to whoever rents it out.

This means zero crowds, just you and the people you love. Beyond that, Thanda Island has its own manor house and a few beach bandas to house your guests so that everyone can holiday together in paradise. Of course, this is the ultimate place to have a wedding on the beach, and the weather is excellent all year round, providing you with the opportunity to plan at any time of the year.

Thanda Island is the ideal private island getaway surrounded by crystal clear waters, marine life, lush island vegetation, white sand beaches and palm trees - your wedding photos will be something out of a summer-time fairytale. There’s also fantastic amenities and activities on offer for you and your guests including yoga on the beach, tennis, volleyball, snorkelling, boat trips, kayaking and more.

2. Lisbon, Portugal

Lisbon has become an incredibly popular European destination, and there’s no wonder why. It’s situated on the coast, with perfect weather, culture, beautiful architecture, great food and warm and welcoming people. While the city itself is rather small, greater Lisbon is also home to wine farms and countryside, which makes for a perfect destination for a wedding.

The wine estates are not far outside of the city, a mere 40 minutes by car, so your guests have the option to stay either in the town or in the countryside (variety is always a winner). There are also plenty of manor estates out in the country that will house the entire wedding party - so make sure to do your research.

A popular city destination is an excellent idea for a wedding because it’s easier for people to fly directly into Portugal from almost any part of the world.

3. Santorini, Greece

Santorini is, without a doubt, one of the most romantic places on earth. Perched on a mountainside/archipelago, it has uninterrupted views of the mediterranean sea, and gorgeous sunsets and sunrises.

It truly makes for an exquisite backdrop for a wedding. Santorini is also a place that most people have on their travel bucket lists, meaning your guests would most likely be more than thrilled to spend the extra bit of money on travelling there.

Santorini can be a little pricey, especially with accommodation and flights, so make sure it’s suitable for those you’re looking to invite.

4. Cabo, Mexico

Cabo San Lucas is one of those ‘it’ destinations, and is frequented by celebrities. This is less because it’s flashy, and more because it’s reasonably quiet and one can travel ‘under the radar’, away from hoards of people. It’s also a coastal destination, with many beautiful beach coves and long stretches of coast, ideal for a wedding.

Cabo is also home to a plethora of gorgeous hotels (some very very fancy ones), so if you’re looking for something ravishingly understated situated in an exquisite location. Cabo may be the place you’ve been looking for if exotic beaches are your preference.

And I mean, what’s better than Mexican food, and a trip filled with culture and unrivalled hospitality?

5. Lapland, Finland

Since we’ve covered all the beachy destinations (because that’s what most couples are looking for), we can’t help but throw in one of the world’s most magical winter wonderlands, which also make for a beautiful setting to tie the knot.

Few words can accurately describe the beauty Lapland: think snow-capped mountains and cabins, real Christmas trees everywhere you look, fireplaces and bonfires and even igloos - that’s Lapland.

Now, while some couples aren’t so keen on the cold, others are looking for something unique, and Lapland certainly provides this.

Your guests can also go skiing in their free time, go husky-sledding in the snow, build snowmen, melt marshmallows in the fire and sip wine and beer by the fireplace. Sounds like something out of a fairytale!
