How To Secure Your Home On A Budget

30 August 2019 | 0 comments | Posted by Willam Smithies in Alarming

Budget security measures for your home

One single vulnerability is all that an attacker needs. Regardless of all the safety measures you take, your home may be exposed to loopholes in security.

So, what will you do?

Sit and wonder why it happened or cry over the loss you had to face because of the incident. Crying over spilt milk is no fun, and crimes like theft and burglaries will not come informed. As a result, you have to make sure that you keep all the safety measures intact but without blowing your budget.

Security can be maintained even on the tightest budget. Here’s how!

Inspection of door security locks

FBI statistics say that 60% of the burglaries take place either through the front or the back door. Miscreants will look for opportunities to storm through the doors.

This is the reason why you have first to inspect all the doors and windows. Check the hinges of the door, its knobs, and if you think your door can be brought down by a single kick, it’s time to change the bolts and strike the plates of your door.

Upgrade deadbolt, lockset and strike plate

Despite changing the entire security system of the house, you can replace the old doorknobs, and fragile locksets with heavy duty-bolts and quality enhanced strike plates. The matter of fact is that this is only a one-time investment.

It will not cost you a lifetime of savings. As soon as you replace the door bolts, you can go wherever you want. At least you won’t have to worry about the door being slammed down in just one kick.

Always lock the doors and windows

This method is one of the cheapest and self-cautionary methods used for protection. Most people fall prey to theft and other incidents because they leave their windows uncovered or forgot to lock it.

It is but obvious that burglars will seek open opportunities. You have to make sure that you don’t leave any window or door unlocked before you leave the house.

So, first and foremost, cover the windows with curtains or blinds. Likewise, ensure that all the doors are closed. Don’t leave the front of the garage door open. Check all the locks before leaving, and you are good to go.

Use motion-sensing lights and alarms

Compare the regular lights against motion-sensing lights if you think that your house requires extra safety. Motion sensing lights will work best for you. These lights can detect infrared signals. The sensor is made sensitive to the temperature of the human body.

So, as soon as individual steps under the light, infrared signals captured by these sensors travel through the wires and buzz a burglar alarm.

In addition to this, you can also purchase solar lights with similar motion sensors. In turn, you will also be able to save on the electricity bill.

Consequently, installing these lights will not burn a hole in your pocket, and you can keep all the miscreants of society from barging into your private space.

Keep your house occupied

Research has found that greatest thefts take place between 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Thieves will look for areas that are secluded and unoccupied.

Instead, it is natural for thieves to attack your site during these hours because people are out at work. This point reminds me of the movie Home Alone. Does it ring a bell?

I am sure it does. Remember how Kevin creates an illusion with the help of mannequins, lights, and music. You can create an illusion by parking the car in the driveway (if you have a new vehicle) or by leaving the TV and radio on.

Secure your door with a combination lockbox

Instead of using traditional methods of hiding the key in various places. You can buy a combination lock. They are not expensive and come in multiple shapes and sizes.

Securing your house with a lockbox will help you stay at peace. But make sure you hide the lockbox and keep the combination between you and your family members. In addition to this, you can be safer by keeping valuables out of sight.

Flashing expensive paintings and other items can easily attract burglars. So, make sure that you draw the curtains and keep such valuables away from the window.

These are some of the most effective and budget-friendly methods you can use to secure your home. Of course, there is no particular strategy to keep your dwelling 100% safe.

But this doesn’t mean that you keep a gun next to your pillow every night. Keeping all the methods as mentioned above in mind will help you find a constructive solution. So, stay and safe and always remember to lock your doors.
