How to Get Wax Out of Carpet in 4 Simple Steps
05 November 2020 | 0 comments | Posted by Shaheryar Sadiq in Constructive Criticism
Keeping the house neat and clean is not an easy job. Whether its tiles or glass windows, sofas, or carpets, all household chores are challenging. House upkeep becomes even more challenging when you have kids and pets at home. While some areas in the house like tiled floors are easier to clean, others like carpets and curtains are not.
Once you get a stain on the carpet, it's a pain to get it out. Coffee stains, wine stains, muddy shoe stains, and even nail polish stain are some popular enemies of carpet cleanliness. Candle Wax is also a tough one to get out; once a candle drips on to your Afghan, it won't come out unless you cut the hair off the carpet or call professional carpet cleaning services.
But we all know that we can't afford professional services every time we get wax on the carpet (if you are a scented candle hoarder like me, it happens more frequently). Removing candle wax out of the carpet is challenging but possible.
This article covers a simple four-step process that will guide you on how to remove wax from the carpet with the items that you already have at home.
First, we have listed down the materials that you would need for removing wax and how to make the carpet look new. Then we will proceed with the four simple steps to get rid of wax and its stain.
Let's begin!
Items you need
The items that you would need for wax cleaning are already present in many of the households. You may not even need to purchase anything from outside. The items are:
- An ice pack
- A dull-edged knife
- Iron or a hairdryer/ hair straightener
- A cloth towel, Paper towel, or brown paper, the choice is yours
- Rubbing alcohol or a carpet cleaner
- A Vacuum cleaner
Now that we have the ingredients sorted, let's get on with the method:
4 Simple steps to clean the wax
Before I share the steps, I must advise you to get this process of wax removal started the moment you see it; otherwise, the wax will leave a mark. If you ignore the wax for longer, it will be hard for you to remove the stain.
Below are the four simple steps that will turn your carpet brand new.
Step 1: Freeze the wax
Take a bag of ice, an ice cube, or an ice pack from your freezer and place it over the wax. The idea here is that the ice will cause the wax to become frozen, and hence easier to remove.
Give the wax about 10 to 15 minutes to get freeze. Also, avoid the wax from getting wet with the ice pack; else, the moisture will make it harder to remove it. So if your ice pack starts dripping, change it.
This will not work.
Step 2: Scrape off the wax
After 10-15 minutes, when the wax is frozen, take a dull-edged knife from your kitchen cabinet and start scraping off the wax. Be careful, do not cut your fingers or the carpet threads.
A dull-edged knife or a butter knife is ideal for this purpose; it is not sharp enough to damage the carpet but has the right shape for scraping off the wax or even gum.
You may also get an offset spatula if you have one lying around your kitchen. Once you have scrapped the wax as much as you can, turn the vacuum on and collect the scrapped pieces.
Step 3: Use an iron or blow dryer to heat the wax
The next step is to warm the wax. On top of the wax, place a brown paper, paper towel, or white terry cotton towel. Heat the iron to a low degree, keep it on the towel, and heat it. Do not forget to turn off the steam function.
If you do not want to use an iron, another good option is to use a hairdryer to warm the wax. Please turn it on and make the stain warm by blowing the hot air coming from the hairdryer.
Then press the paper towel, brown paper, or terry cotton towel onto the stain to absorb the melted wax. When the wax is absorbed by the towel, again place it over the wax stain so that no amount of wax is left behind. Repeat it until the wax is gone.
Step 4: Time to clean your carpet
The last step is to spray a carpet cleaning formula on the stain. For coloured stains of candle wax, take a white terry towel with a small amount of rubbing alcohol and rub it over the stain.
Rub it till the stain is all gone. Do not rub the alcohol solution directly into the carpet, as it can damage its colours. It can also leave a stain on your carpet.
When the carpet is dry, turn ON the vacuum and run over the stained area. Voila! Your carpet is cleaned, and your house is all set for arranging a get-together or a dinner.
Final thoughts
Household chores are time-consuming and require a lot of effort. Cleaning a carpet is not an easy task, but it is not impossible. From a coffee spillage to candle wax, it can be cleaned at home with just a few items. If all else fails, you can hire the services of a carpet cleaning business, but it would cost you a lot more than a butter knife and clothing ion!
If you are planning a dinner at your place this weekend and the carpet is stained with candle wax, follow the above four simple steps to scrap it off from the carpet and make it look new.
Do not forget to give us feedback if you remove the wax from your carpet with the above procedure.
