Payment Options When Buying A Crypto Domain

25 March 2022 | 1 comments | Posted by Claire Wouters in Geek Chic

Paying for a blockchain domain

The idea of a crypto-based web register is starting to gain popularity, especially with the NFT market bringing the concept of tokenising different things on the blockchain more popular. There are various reasons people purchase a blockchain domain. The vast majority are trying to flip it as a domain reseller.

Still, if you're not part of that crowd, you probably want one to either build a mirror website, have a custom email address or crypto wallet address, or you're building a project in the blockchain space.

Another reason would be you're an agency or a reseller that purchases domains on behalf of clients and third parties because they don't have the know-how or confidence to do it themselves.

Regardless of your reasoning, purchasing a blockchain domain had become relatively easy compared to when they first came around. So how do you go about buying one and how can you pay for it? Let's dive in and see, shall we?

Getting started with a domain register

First, you need to find a service that registers blockchain domains and create an account. Once you've signed up to a site like Unstoppable Domains and confirmed your email address, you will need to set up your account and provide a wallet address that would hold the domains.

Setting up an Ethereum wallet

If you don't yet have a wallet, it's suggested that you create one with a private key and once you've stored your private key safely, grab the public key generated for your Ethereum wallet.

You can do so using wallets like:

  • Metamask
  • WalletConnect
  • MyEtherWallet
  • Coinbase Wallet

Setting up a Polygon wallet

If you don't yet have a wallet, it's suggested that you create one with a private key and once you've stored your private key safely, grab the public key generated for your Polygon wallet. Polygon may not be the default network for your wallet, so you may need to add their details first before you can connect to the Polygon network.

You can do so using wallets like:

  • Metamask
  • WalletConnect
  • MyEtherWallet
  • Coinbase Wallet

Setting up a Zilliqa wallet

If you plan on purchasing a Zil Domain, you will need to have a separate wallet set up that connects to the Zilliqa blockchain and provide your Keystore file when adding your wallet to Unstoppable Domains.

You can use a wallet provider like:

  • ZilPay Wallet

Methods of purchase

Now you're ready to purchase and take ownership of the domains you want to acquire. Once you've selected the domain names you like from the various TLD extension available, head over to check out, and you will have four payment options.

Credit card

If you have a credit card, you can make your purchase, like you would any eCommerce sale with an online store.

Cryptocurrency

If you select cryptocurrency, you can pay in 6 different options, 2 of which are stablecoins. Please note that the stablecoin options HAVE to be ones minted on Ethereum for payment to be confirmed.

  • Bitcoin (BTC)
  • Bitcoin Cash (BCH)
  • Ethereum (ETH)
  • DAI (ERC-20 Version)
  • Litecoin (LTC)
  • USDC (ERC-20 Version)

PayPal

If you have a PayPal account that is pre-funded or connected to your bank card, you can use the PayPal option to connect and pay through their service.

Crypto.com Pay

If you're a crypto.com user and have Crypto Pay set up with the app or the card, you can use it to pay for your domains and receive a 10% discount on your purchase.

Pay and get it right away

Once your payment has been confirmed, Unstoppable Domains will then transfer over the NFT of your blockchain domain or domains to the cryptocurrency wallet, and now it's yours to do with as you please.

You could build a website on it, sell it on third party marketplaces, transfer it to friends, family or clients; it's all up to you.

Exploring the decentralised web

If you have purchased a decentralised domain or you want to explore domains that others have created websites for, then you can either use directories created to curate these websites or decentralised search engines. These websites will give you access not only to others websites, but any of the websites you've built on either of the domains you own, regardless of the blockchain it's on because they support Ethereum, Polygon and Zilliqa blockchains.

Reserving your domain

Now that you know how decentralised domain registration works, will you be getting one? Do you own one already? If not you can purchase one today at Unstoppable Domains.
