Ways to Reduce Workplace Stress

How you can reduce work stress

Are you happy with your current work situation and atmosphere? Would you say that you have it easy in the office and don’t stress much? Sadly, for the majority of people today, this is far from true. People in managerial and C-level positions, as well as entry-level workers, struggle with workplace stress every day, and it often takes a toll on their mental health and personal time too.

If this is also happening at your workplace, read on to discover easy and effective ways to reduce workplace stress significantly.

Team bonding is crucial

When at work, we rely on our colleagues and teammates for support. This is why the atmosphere in teams should be healthy and communication easy and open.

Dysfunctional teams are a major cause of stress for employees, so even if the tasks are being taken care of, team members are likely far from content. It’s up to the leaders to encourage teams to bond with each other in a healthy and casual way. This is how everyone builds solid and trusting relationships with each other and feels good coming to work.

Strong teams communicate better, hold each other accountable, and trust each other more. Schedule team building regularly, but make sure it’s on company time – you don’t want anyone to have to come on their day off.

Give everyone great benefits

The most common reason people are stressed at work is that they have a lot of worries outside the office. Employees and their families often struggle with health issues and unexpected costs, but companies don’t always provide good benefits. As a result, employees aren’t focused on work because they are trying to come up with a solution for their problems.

When you, as an employer, offer good benefits, good insurance, and paid PTO, you’ll be rewarded with dedicated and committed workers who give 110% in the office. Taking care of your employees will take you far, so try to step up and provide them with the conditions they actually need.

Outsource talents

When you have a demanding and difficult project ahead, you naturally want your company to do well. Sometimes this means working a lot of overtime, but at other times, it means that your employees have to wear many hats in order to meet the deadlines and provide excellent results.

Sadly, it’s not always the case that people are skilled in many different things, so asking your regular employees to take up unknown and difficult tasks will only lead to stress and disappointment on both your parts.

This is where an outside agency can step in and sort things out for you. You can easily find a great recruitment agency in Sydney and leave the matter in their capable hands. Having someone else scout and hire talent for your company will save you a lot of time and, eventually, money.

Remind everyone of their breaks

With harsh deadlines and targets, it’s easy to stay glued to your office chair and stare at the computer screen for longer than necessary. As a good employer and manager, it’s your duty to remind everyone to take their breaks.

Breaks are necessary for everyone’s physical and mental health, but also for their productivity and socialising in the workplace. Remind everyone to take their breaks often, including your salaried employees.

There are studies that show that the majority of people are at their most productive when they work in 90-minute spurts that are ‘separated’ by 20-minute breaks. While you should send outbreak reminders, you should also lead by example and take regular breaks yourself.

Work on flexible schedules

Of course, not all lines of business can allow this to happen, but if there’s a chance for your employees to change their office hours, by all means, allow them to do so. When employees have more options and flexibility in their schedules and work location, they become much healthier and more productive.

Not having to commute during rush hour will save a lot of time for them, and as long as their tasks are done and deadlines met, there’s no reason for you not to allow them to stay flexible. This is because stressors aren’t necessarily in the office but rather in the commute, gas prices, and work-life balance.

The pandemic changed the way we work but also the way we take care of ourselves. People have started paying more attention to their well-being, and companies and employers who prioritise their employees’ mental health are held in high esteem.

Sometimes, you have to take matters into your own and carve out a “stress-free zone” at work, but it’s very much worth it. Not only will you be calmer and happier, but you’ll notice your productivity skyrocketing too.
