Sun city accommodation tips

Whether you're in town for the annual golf event or hoping to catch a glimpse of Miss SA, Sun City International is one of South Africa's favourite resorts, hands down. With so much to do within the resort, it probably sounds like a good idea to book a hotel from one of the many Sun City accommodation options.

If you're catching flights from Durban to Joburg or from anywhere else in the world, choosing where to spend your time could prove to be quite tricky. Luckily, this guide will take you through the best Sun City accommodation and any options in the surrounding area.

Read on to learn all you have to know before booking your next trip.

Accommodation in Sun City Resort | Pros & Cons

A quick search on the >Sun City website, and you'll discover quite a few options for wonderful luxury and cheap Sun City accommodations. There are about four different accommodation options within the resort.

These hotels range from 3-star hotels to 5-star hotels and even a couple of luxury options. But what are the pros and cons of staying in this world-class resort?

Pros of Staying in Sun City Accommodation

The resort itself boasts pools with clear blue waters, the Valley of Waves waterpark as well as the Maze of the Lost City. There are tons of activities on offer, from adrenaline-boosting drift trikes or 4x4 quad bikes to thrilling shopping centres. There are also tons of exciting adventures for the kids as well.

The activities here are the main reason why you should book your stay within the confines of the resort. While the offered luxury is one chip to bargain with, the casino and plethora of exhilarating activity choices are the ultimate winning hand.

Cons of Staying in Sun City Accommodation

The biggest concern for anyone booking a trip to Sun City is the inevitable bill that needs to be settled. It goes without saying that a stay in any of the holiday accommodations in Sun City needs to be planned (and saved for) well in advance.

With lodging options for everyone and a range of perks, the price comes with as much value as one can hope for. If you're planning on becoming a regular, make sure to join the Sun Vacation Club for timeshare options, a few exclusive discounts, and free entry to the resort.

Sun City Hotels

Whether you're in town for a luxury stay, family vacation, or a prominent business venture, Sun City accommodation is suited to almost everyone. Between the cheaper options like the 3-star hotel or the pricier lavish Palace hotel, you're bound to feel right at home.

The Cabanas Hotel

The Cabanas hotel is found at the Sun City Waterworld Lake. Here you can expect affordable hotel services. It is a great location for anyone whose main objective is to immerse themselves within the Sun City resort.

The Cabanas is a more budget-conscious option, and this 3-star hotel provides the best views while entertaining the kids at Kamp Kwena or hosting adults to cocktails at the Pool Deck.

The Palace Hotel

The Palace, the 5-star hotel, is perfect for anyone looking for lavish luxury living. Everything from the decor to the amenities screams luxury. On the one hand, you're right at the doorstep of your favourite resort's attractions, but on the other hand, this is not the most budget-friendly option.

Soho Hotel and Casino

This is the main hotel built on the resort. The Soho Hotel and Casino offers a 4-star experience with the most central location to everything that Sun City has on offer. There are standard hotel services as well as excellent views and a concierge service to make your stay a bit more beautiful and convenient.

The Cascades Hotel

This hotel is defined by calmness and serenity. Within close proximity to adventure, it's a haven for those who desire some peace. The Cascades is a luxury 5-star hotel that is best for anyone without kids and is particularly advisable to those visiting for business reasons.

Accommodation near Sun City

While living in the resort, everything is at your fingertips, and 'convenient' is just one of the words you'll be using daily. Although, there are quite a few interesting activities and adventures to be had outside the gates of the Sun City International Resort as well.

If you're planning on staying for a while, you may be curious as to what awaits a few hours away. Sun City is right at the foothills of >Pilanesberg National Park. It's also only around two hours drive from the Pretoria and Johannesburg city centres.

Luckily, there are a few viable options in the surrounding areas, whether you're lodging with the whole family or wanting something romantic for you and your partner. Choosing to stay off-site is a great way to save some extra cash and ensure that you've got a full itinerary packed with adventure. Travelling may be an issue of concern, although, with enough uber promos to spare or a rented car, you should be fine.

Some of the best accommodation options near Sun City are:

  • Bakubang Self-catering Apartment
  • African Elegance Tented Lodge
  • Sundown Country Estate
  • Finfoot Lake Reserve
  • Iwamanzi Game Lodge

Final Notes on Sun City accommodation

Be sure to make your sun city bookings relatively early to get the best prices and to ensure that you don't miss out. Thanks to the new normal, the resort is only open to those who have pre-booked online, members within the hotel and vacation club, as well as MVG members.

So, no walk-ins are allowed as there is limited space available within the facility. Now that you're fully equipped with everything there is to know about accommodation in sun city, go ahead and plan that trip!
