What Are We Talking About When We Say 'HHC Vape Pens?'

What are HHC Vape Pens

It is admittedly hard to keep up with the new hemp-derived cannabis products that are popping up on the market. Since hemp was declared a legal plant in the USA in 2018, companies have been working at breakneck speed to produce various new, innovative cannabinoid products.

One such product is HHC, or more specifically, HHC vape pens. What exactly is HHC, and what can one expect when using a product like an HHC vape?

Let's find out.

What is HHC?

HHC, scientifically known as hexahydrocannabinol, is a laboratory-made cannabinoid that companies manufacture through the hydrogen of hemp-derived compounds, mostly CBD and THC. The compound is very similar in structure to naturally occurring THC, save for a minor difference in the location of a hydrogen bond in a single HHC compound.

Though the structural difference between an HHC compound and a THC compound is minor, the effects can be more pronounced. Although the effects of an HHC vape pen can (and do) vary tremendously from person to person, most users say that HHC is about half or even a third as potent as THC. Although the difference in potency is not exactly understood, it is likely due to the structural difference in the location of the hydrogen bond between carbon atoms in the standard THC molecule.

How HHC Vape Products Are Made.

Like other 'alternative' cannabinoid products on the market these days, HHC vape pens are made by first extracting raw oil from hemp. Hemp naturally contains a number of cannabinoids, including both THC and CBD. After the initial extract is taken from the plant, HHC vape pen manufacturers process and filter the crude tincture until the chemical structure of hexahydrocannabinol is achieved.

The process of making HHC vape pens is complex in a chemical sense. Through a process called hydrogenation, a single hydrogen atom in the natural hemp-derived THC compound is moved; thus changing the shape and structural integrity of the compound itself. After hemp-derived THC has been effectively converted into HHC, the extracted tinctures is then made into a vape oil, similar to the process that other vapes are made.

Are HHC Vape Pens Safe?

Due to the newness of the market, many interested customers that want to try HHC are concerned about the safety of their HHC vape pen - and for a good reason. The simple truth is, there is next to zero regulation on the manufacture of HHC vapes and other types of alternative cannabinoid products. Unless customers shop and buy from a reputable and well-established brand, the safety and quality of an HHC vape pen is often very hit or miss.

So what should you do if you want to experience the effects of an HHC vape pen? There are a handful of quality, reputable brands that are currently manufacturing HHC vapes, including a few brands that rose to popularity over the last several years in the CBD market. Buying from a popular, trusted brand is really the only safe way to go about experiencing and enjoying the exciting effects of a quality HHC vape device.

Summary and Additional Information on HHC Vape Pens.

One of the best things about an HHC vape pen is they're so easy to use. Unlike cartridges, wherein the vape device and the oil must be bought separately, HHC vape pens come out of the box fully charged and ready to use.

Some of them don't even have a power button - just put the mouthpiece in your mouth and inhale, that's it. The battery will automatically be powered on, at which point the coil will heat the HHC-containing liquid until it dissolves into a vapor for inhalation.

Again, however, for those interested in trying the new experience of an HHC vape product, be sure you only buy from a reputable company. Most reputable brands have published lab reports on their website that clearly show the amount of hexahydrocannabinol contained in each HHC vape pen.

The lab report will also show the presence and amount of other compounds, including beneficial compounds such as CBD, and other not-so-beneficial compounds like chemical solvents, toxins, and heavy metals from the soil.
