Planning a Renovation When Working From Home
26 August 2022 | 1 comments | Posted by Dea Muric in Constructive Criticism
Remodelling and renovating can cause a lot of disruption in your home life, particularly if you work from home. I'd like to provide a practical strategy on how to get everything ready and organised in advance so you can keep working productively throughout.
Understanding the sheer scope of the project, as well as accurately planning what to expect at each stage, is the first step in a complete house renovation. The first thing you should consider is what area of the house is being renovated (the kitchen, bathroom, or new room addition).
Can you locate a workspace that isn't near any walls that will be torn down? Being realistic about your personal space and how it will affect your workflow is crucial. Adopt a modular way of thinking. Be careful to divide apart the current area if you're adding on to the house and design it as a distinct building that you can later integrate.
Map it out
Make sure that no construction is taking place in your workspace. Talk with your contractor in advance to decide where to set up business for the least amount of disruptions feasible (noise, interruptions, foot traffic, etc.).
If you have lunch at home but are remodelling the kitchen, put up a temporary kitchen with the necessities like a coffee maker, microwave, toaster, disposable plates and cutlery, a small refrigerator, etc.
In case your notion of working from home doesn't work out exactly as you had hoped, be sure to have a Plan B. The clutter may be more difficult to manage, or the noise levels may be higher than intended.
Expect disruptions
Set start and stop times and let the contractor know about them; bear in mind that this will affect both the contractor's timetable and the length of the job. Plan conference calls for times when there will be less noise. If you need to take a call during certain times, look for a quiet area to retreat to.
When contractors and other employees eat lunch and/or finish their shifts, it is typically the quietest time of the day. Use these window times! The clutter may seem chaotic. However, there are easy solutions to control it. Put a plastic barrier on your desk to keep the dust away. Vents and ducts should be covered. Vacuum daily.
Leave if possible
Those who enjoy working from home may object to hearing this, but if you have another choice, leave your house when the renovation is actually happening. You are not required to go to the workplace as a result. You may use a coffee shop, a nearby coworking space, a temporary office, or even a hotel room to conduct business. It doesn't need to be difficult to plan a house renovation.
Hire professionals
Because no two home renovation jobs are the same, it's a good idea to employ knowledgeable, dependable, and experienced contractors that are experts in their particular fields. If you're ready to collaborate with a trustworthy, respectable, skilled, and knowledgeable crew of entire house remodelling contractors, then we recommend custom home builders.
Personal belongings
Most customers feel safer keeping their valuables locked up or hidden during construction. Move any superfluous objects to a secure location whenever possible. This will expand your workspace for you and guard against the loss or damage of such goods. And keep an eye on your most priceless possessions at all times.
Your personal property's safety should be the last item on your mind during the workday. Just store it away if you have any concerns. Even planning your upcoming renovation project can be stressful enough while working from home during the renovation; maintain your sanity in check.
Also, keep in mind that upgrading your entire house is an investment in your lifestyle as much as in space or energy efficiency. A full house redesign may be just what you need to realize your vision; whether your family is expanding, you need more accessibility to retain your independence in your home, or for any other purpose in between. Your priorities may change as your life does. Your home should be modified to meet those demands, too, right?
